Even stranger was that the “pillar” in the middle didn’t move around at all - it appeared to be leaning on its side. I was parked at what appeared to be a room inside Bellsprout Tower, but there were no NPCs around. Having enough of the party, I closed the menu. The most eerie thing that happened up to this point was that, despite my volume being at max, none of the Pokemon had sounded their cries. I don’t know why they named him “HURRY,” but I disregarded it at the time. The Cyndaquil looked normal, but it was level five and had only one HP left. I was a bit shaky with my Unown alphabet at the time, but I identified that they spelled out the word “LEAVE.” As for the sixth Pokemon, it turned out to be a Cyndaquil. As expected, they were different letters of Unown, and all at level five. To me, it looked like some sort of cruel joke played by the last owner of the game…but I decided to check the profiles of these Pokemon anyway. To my surprise, there were five Unowns and a sixth Pokemon named HURRY. I checked his party to see what sort of team he had. I assumed either he was a cheater or a hardcore player. He had all 16 badges, the max amount of money, and all 251 Pokemon logged in the Pokedex. I checked the profile and, apparently, he had put 999:99 hours into the game. The character’s name was “….” This guy didn’t have much originality. I would have wanted to see the previous save file anyway.įirst, I checked the trainer information. It was strange, considering the poor battery should have caused the save file to disappear a long time ago. Rather than going to the usual menu screen, however, I was placed in the game, on a previous save file. There was a black screen for five seconds. However, after some time passed, the logo vanished. I tried pressing all the buttons with no luck. I thought he cartridge was broken or something, so I turned it off and on again. The Game Freak logo showed up like normal, then the game froze. It’s most likely the reason you’re reading this, too.
However, this is where things were getting bizarre. I went home and started it up for the nostalgia trip. As such, I set out to my local game store and bought a used copy. She also threw away my copy of Silver, leaving me with no games for my Game Boy Color. I realized, though, that my mother threw it away long ago after I told her the save battery went dead. It said it would take a week to arrive, so I decided during that time, I would replay Pokemon Crystal on my Game Boy Color. After my school year ended, I ordered SoulSilver on Amazon. I have purposely locked myself out of all media and the Internet aside for school purposes, meaning I have no 4chan or Bulbapedia to look up information with.Īs I was busy with school and (at the time) poor, I wasn’t able to buy either game at launch. I was very enthusiastic about the release of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver in the states. I am a simple college student living alone in an apartment.
